So I just got this email from my older sister:
Subject line: facebook
you need to get on!! there is a [ward from my home stake] friends group and they want to get together and someone was looking for you to organize a get-together:) Plus, there is an awesome picture of [that one guy] taking off a garter from way up on [that one girl]'s leg--hee hee!
And I started to write back to her, and then the profound truths listed in the title of this post hit me, and so you all get to read my reply, you lucky internets, you.
OK, but I REALLY don't need something ELSE to keep me from getting my work done, and you KNOW I am OCD enough that I would have to connect with everyone I've ever met, including those people from my alma mater who I never actually met but saw them walking on campus all the time, and because I spent SO MANY YEARS on that campus I'm sure they must have been in my ward at some point, so I introduce myself, and then sure enough, we don't know each other and now I look like a weird stalker freak. (And yes, that happened to me about a month and a half ago.)
sigh.
I feel like I'm the only person in the free world NOT on facebook. And I take a wee bit of pride in that. Kind of like I took a wee bit of pride in high school about not wearing make up, and I've tried to start wearing make up now several times, and I own some nice Mary Kay eyeshadow that I have been taught to apply by a friend who always looks REALLY nice with her make up, and I just don't do it.
So let's just say that facebook is the Mary Kay eyeshadow of my web presence.
But secretly I'm really flattered that those fun people want me to plan a get-together. And I'll probably do it.

it IS late at night! and yes, you are a funny gal. i was just on my facebook and thinking to myself... "why do i spend so much time on here?! but whatever... now let's change my status..." haha.
My sister refuses to join Facebook as well, so you're not the last one. Apparently there are two of you in the world. How long will you last? It's fun.... you know you want to....
I know what you mean about seeing people at school and thinking you know them from somewhere. You're like "you look really familiar" and they're like, "yeah, um.... yeah..." and look awkwardly at you...
Yeah, I only gave into facebook because almost all the sisters from my mission are on it, but I hardly ever go there... so I don't know if it is effective. Daniel isn't on it either - so you have something in common (but I get to be friends with all his family that is)!
sigh. Facebook is the ONLY thing like that I have joined... other than blogging and emailing, which i guess is a lot. The thing I don't like are IMing or texting. So that's my, er... lipstick. Yeah. Lipstick. Or backcombing, perhaps? I'm very prejudiced against backcombing.
It would be nice to see you on facebook. But you know. YOu've got to stand up for your beliefs.
I remember being the only person that hadn't ready Harry Potter and taking pride in that, and then one day I started reading Harry Potter and now Dumbledor is gay.
So go ahead hold onto it, but either way your going to disappoint. You miss the cute pics of your sibling's baby or you have almost 400 friends taken from the physical world to the virtual world and still never chat with them. Either way you feel like your missing out.
Although I'm with NoSurf, it would be nice to see you on the book of faces dot com.
I'm not on facebook, either. We can hang out together! (by email...)
PS. Shop-ko has bean bag stuffing... it was on sale a few days ago - just thought I'd let you know while I was thinking about it.
There are so many reasons that you're a favorite of mine. This post just happens to be one of them! ha ha ha ha
