In which I get political (ok, not really, but weren't you excited about it, just for a second?!)

Maybe the problem with our government is that they spoil all the fun...



and make no sense.

I hate those signs, especially the banisters.

Let...

X = p that someone would *want* to slide down the banister

Y = p that someone would read the sign *and* do what it says.

Then...

X*Y = p that someone who *was* going to slide down the banister *saw* the sign and decided not to.

But X and Y are probably covariants. People who would slide down a public banister (especially at a memorial, monument, or function government building) are unlikely to be polite/literate enough to abide by the orders of the signage.

A more effective deterent would be to weld those little metal nubs to the railing.
